Can you get free training through the CITB Levy?

Are you a CITB Levy Payer?

CITB require all companies who have a wage bill of over £80,000 to be registered and pay a levy. This includes if you use sub-contractors. If this applies to you then you will be paying 0.35% on all direct employees and 1.25% on all sub-contractors. This of cause can be very expensive if you don’t claim any of it back for training purposes. If you pay the CITB levy you can work out how much you will need to pay by clicking here and using the CITB Levy Calculator.

Funded Qualifications and Training through the CITB Levy

If you are a registered company you are entitled to claim back an amount from the CITB for every qualification that your member of staff completes. Again this includes direct PAYE employees and Sub-Contractors. However it does not mean that you have to pay the CITB levy. You can register as a company and providing your combined wages do not exceed £79,999 you can claim back money for construction related training. However it is worth noting that you still need to complete a levy return even if the wages do not exceed the £79,999.

How much can I claim back

There are many different qualifications you can claim on. There are short courses, NVQs, Long term courses and apprenticeships

For short courses

Short courses are funded under 3 tiers.

Tier 1 is £30 per person

Tier 2 is £70 per person

Tier 3 is £120 per person

These courses can be found on the construction training register and include The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety (delivered online by us), Professional Toolbox talks and many more. The construction training register can be found by clicking here

For NVQs

£600 can be claimed back for each NVQ awarded up to 3 NVQs in a lifetime. We offer level 2 NVQs at a discounted rate to fall inline with this price. Please find links below to all of our NVQs which you can claim back 100% of the cost.

NVQ 2 in Carpentry NVQ 2 in Kitchen Fitting NVQ 2 in Joinery

NVQ 2 in Fenestration NVQ 2 in Plastering NVQ 2 in Bricklaying

NVQ 2 in Dry Lining NVQ 2 in Maintenance NVQ 2 in Shop Fitting

For Apprenticeships

If you are a registered company you can claim back up to £11,000 per apprentice over a 3 year period plus a £500 sign up fee providing your business has not exceeded £400,000 in the previous year. You can find more out about apprenticeship grants by clicking here

Can I get funding for Construction NVQs if I don’t pay a Levy

Yes absolutely. If you have one employee in your company and your wage bill is less than £79,999 then you can register as an employer and claim for qualifications. It is worth speaking to the CITB before signing up to get an estimate on how much you can claim back. You don’t need to be limited, however if you are self employed and earning over £80k and want to get free training I recommend that you register as a Limited company pay yourself a lower wage and withdraw a dividend each month which will lower your wage bill. If you want to register as an employee then you can follow this link by clicking here.

I hope this has given you more information about the CITB levy and grant system. I hope that it allows you to utilise your budget either with Multi Trades Training Ltd or another high quality training provider.
